I have some Fargesia ruffa growing in a garden bed. The majority of the stems are growing straight but some are growing irregular and have a curve and are also s shaped. What could cause this to happen?

Dear Gardener:   Sometimes if a bug or tiny critter nibbles on one side of a stem as the stem is growing, the stem will become misshapen or curve.
