The trunk of my weeping cherry tree has split and ants are visible. What can be done?

Elaine, prune some of the upper branches to relieve some of the weight.  Then cable it with eye bolts in each branch and join with a strong wire.  You can't wrap wire around the branches because it will strangle the branches.  Some insecticide in the split might help the insects from creating more damage.  Thanks for contacting PHS.  ep
