Q

My beautiful petunias seem to have grown small stem in the end and no blooms.

Should I cut them back? I do a fairly good job of dead heading, not perfect. Thanks for your help.

Answer

Dear Gardener:  It sounds like your Petunia are resting after blooming well for a while.  I would cut them back a little to be sure all the seed heads are gone and then fertilize lightly with a fertilizer with higher middle and last numbers (like 5-10-10).  Some Petunias "rebloom" better than others.  One that has a great reputation for blooming all summer is the "Wave" series
