Q

How do I learn how to garden?

I want to know if there is any place that teaches people how to garden. I live in the West Philadelphia area and I don't know how to garden but want to learn.

PHS offers lectures and workshops on gardening. You can get an idea of our offerings by looking at our calendar.

The gardening season will kick off in the Spring, so be sure to revisit our calendar in a few months. Don’t forget to visit the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, a perfect place for inspiration and education and to learn to become a great gardener.

We have a wonderful gardening library which anyone may use, here at PHS. Hours: 9:30 -5 M-F. If you are a member you may borrow books and DVDs from the library. (We can mail the books to your home or office for a fee). See also our ever-growing list of subject guides on all kinds of gardening topics.

If you want to take courses at local colleges and universities or at other horticultural institutions see our Philadelphia Gardening Guide and click on the “organizations” tab. Use this handy guide to learn where to buy plants, what to grow, how to connect with other gardeners and more.
