Can you help me with a research question on a florist from the 1890s?

In my research on a New Jersey florist named LaRoche, I’ve learned he was active at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in the 1890s. Do you have any information to confirm this? And can you provide of list of PHS officers from the 1890s?

Answer

I searched our published history:

Boyd, James. A History of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, 1827-1927,   Philadelphia, Printed for the Society, 1929.

and LaRoche & Stahl are mentioned twice: on p. 226 & p. 231.

This volume has been digitized and is available for reading online through the link referenced below.

Here are tips on how to read the volume online:

Click on magnifying glass to search inside. This will bring up the online reader which you can navigate by viewing one page at a time, two pages, or whole blocks of pages. Use the magnifying glass to zoom in on pages.  In the search box on top, type "LaRoche" (do not use quotes) and you'll get the two pages that reference LaRoche & Stahl. Contact me during business hours via email – mcleanlibrary@pennhort.org  or phone (215) 988-8782 if you are having any problems accessing this material.

As to your second question, you'll find a list of PHS officers in the history beginning on p. 348. -- Janet Evans
