How do I get my gardenia to bloom?

I have a Bonsai gardenia plant. It has a lot of new growth and many buds, but it never blooms. The buds stay hard and turn black and fall off. I am very careful about watering, never letting the plant be too wet or totally dry. There are no bug problems and I fertilize with an acid type fertilizer. Any suggestions to get it to bloom?

Answer

Gardenia buds are sensitive to temperature, and will fall off if temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees are not maintained.  Bright but indirect sun is also important.  I think you are watering and fertilizing the plant properly and adequately.   I hope this bit of information helps.
