How do I have a sustainable wedding? I need help with flower selections.

My fiancée and I are trying to be sustainable when it comes to the flower selections for our wedding and we are having some trouble getting information on how to do this. Do you have any information? I live in Philadelphia.

Answer

See the August, 2011 issue of GRID magazine for a feature on sustainable weddings, beginning  on p. 23 (see link below for the online issue).

You may want to look at the Great Green Weddings web site.

Looking for a local source for cut flowers? Some sources:

Try the local, urban flower growers listed in this 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer article.

Try Slowflowers.com web site. This is a national directory of American grown flowers.

To learn more about this "slow flower" locally grown, chemical-free cut flower movement is changing the way we think of floriculture, read

Prinzing, Debra.   The 50 mile bouquet :   seasonal, local and sustainable flowers  available in the PHS McLean Library.
