Is a white fringe a good choice of tree? Or is a ivory silk tree a better choice?Looking for a small pretty tree.

Would like to use as a specimen tree In front yard. Just want a small tree. Thank you

Answer

Google the two trees that you mentioned in your email.  The Ivory Silk Tree is probably Syringa reticulata ‘Ivory Silk’ and the Fringe tree is Chionanthus virginicus.  The trees are rather similar so looking at pictures of them may help you decide.  One thing I have noticed is that the Syringa flower has a slightly musky fragrance—not bad, just different.  Both are good trees without any serious health problems.  I would pick whichever one appeals to you and looks like it will fit your spot best.
