What can I use to get rid of fruit flies that have nested in the soil of my indoor plants?

I put them in my garage but they will not last unless I can get rid of the flies. Thank you.

Answer

Water the plants less often. The fruit flies are probably soil gnats which occur when plants have been overwatered. The soil should be allowed to dry out somewhat between waterings. Plant roots need oxygen as well as water to thrive. If this doesn't work, remove the plants and repot them in new potting soil.
