We are planning to travel throughout England in July. What are the gardens I should be sure to see?

Answer

I checked in with PHS staff member Chela Kleiber, who organizes and leads our overseas trips. Chela's suggestions:

Great Dixter

Sissinghurst

Hidcote

Royal Botanic Garden, Kew in London

Chela advised that visitors to Great Dixter and Sissinghurst need cars to get there.

Another travel planning tip:

Consult the National Garden Scheme's Garden Finder database to search for gardens open to the public based on where and when you will be when travelling in England.

We have numerous books in the PHS McLean library on English gardens. As a PHS member you may borrow these books. We can even send them out to you through the mail. To learn more, call 215-988-8772.
