My tea roses and sweet william plants are dying each are in separate pots, what might be the cause?

Are these newly planted pots or have the plants been in the same pot for several years?
Perhaps the pots have been getting too much water. Have they pots been fertilized this year?
There is no relationship betwen the two plants so the problem must be a general care
porblem.
