Where can I buy orchids in Philadelphia?

I want to start growing orchids and I would like to go to a reputable place to get them.

Answer

Sorry that you just missed the excellent Orchid Show held at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, earlier this month. It was organized by SEPOS, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Orchid Society. You might look into joining SEPOS so that you can learn from other local orchid growers. There is also a Greater Philadelphia Orchid Society. Here are some places to try (in addition to "Big Box" stores that do sell orchids):

Our own Meadowbrook Farm in Abington, PA and note that we are having a "Spring Fling" plant sale on Saturday, May 3rd. (Bring your PHS Membership Card).

Waldor Orchids in Linwood, NJ is an excellent source for orchids. This family-operated business has been exhibiting in the Philadelphia Flower Show since the 1930s.

Try Lois Duffin Orchids in Wyndmoor, PA

Once our library is reopened (PHS is undergoing major renovations to headquarters and library) I invite you to use our excellent selection of books on growing orchids. We reopen in September. In the meantime, see our

Orchids Subject Guide. It includes some excellent web sites including the American Orchid Society's Orchid Basics pages.
