Is it possible for a cherry tree to be 4 feet in diameter? Approximately how old might it be if it were that large?

in 1840, such a tree is supposed to have stood in front of the Old Cherry Tree Inn at 46th and BaltimoreAve. in Phila.

Answer

Dear Michelle:  I am directing you to two web sites which will give you an idea of how big a cherry tree can be!!!

AmericanForests.org/bigtrees, look on left nav bar and choose "search the register" then choose Prunus or Cherry for tree type. This search will return a list of champion cherry trees.

Pabigtrees.com

Choose "Tree Listings" to search by tree. Use Prunus as your search term. Circumference is measured in inches.

I cannot guess how old the tree may be, but 4' in diameter is quite large!  To get a definitive answer, you might all a tree expert.
