How can I find a good "hardscape" contractor to transform my small Philadelphia backyard?

I have a small historic house in Society Hill. I wish to redesign it to accommodate areas for intensive vegetable gardening. The area is about 200 square feet, and will require plumbing electrical, concrete and porous paver installations, with some careful attention to drainage issues. How do I find a skilled professional who would be interested in a small city job?

Answer

Here are 3 businesses that advertise in our Green Scene magazine:

Heritage Stone & Marble

Robert J. Kleingberg

David Brothers Landscape Services

If they can't help you, they might know someone who can. See also the list of major exhibitors from the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show. There are several design/build firms who exhibit.
