When and how should grape vines be pruned?
Answer
Basic care of grape vines is: prune before Christmas as the vines will bleed if done later; you will end up pruning out about 75% of what is on the plant when you begin; select two-four of the strongest, healthiest vines with nodes spaced about 8-12” apart; cut off all other canes flush with the trunk; if there are a few shoots on the top that are short, leave for next year. I would suggest going to Google and reading about pruning grape vines as there are videos and diagrams that will give you more instruction than my words. Good luck!
