Can you answer my Dahlia question?

I have dahlias that overwintered in my basement that have been sprouting for quite some time and are all leggy. Do I snap the growth off before planting in the ground?

Answer

Lisa, lightly pinch back the top growth, which will encourage root growth. You'll need to gradually introduce the plant to light. Water it if it seems dry and plant it after May 15.

The American Dahlia Society has a terrific website with lots of good information on growing Dahlias. See the two links below. The first link is to Dahlia articles and the second is a link to Dahlia growing.
