Newly planted cherry laurel is turning brown and dying. Plenty of water and no visible insect damage. Causes?

Shrubs were planted in May; water three times a week; some are healthy and vigorous but several are turning brown and in obvious distress. Possible causes?

Answer

Since some of the Cherry Laurels are doing well and some are failing, I would check that the weaker ones are not suffering from too much water.  Is the water on the failing ones sitting around those plants longer?  Is there another source for the water other than what you are giving?  Cherry Laurels for some reason like to be moist, but suffer from too much water.
