How do I get rid of ivy roots on stucco?

I am an ivy lover. Against expert advice I couldn't resist to beauty of ivy. I need help with removing the roots left on our stucco after pruning. Any advice? I've tried painting over the tiny brown "legs" but nothing covers for long.

Answer

You can try a heavy-duty cleaner called trisodium phosphate that is mixed with water. Then rinse very well.  It is very caustic so wear gloves and goggles, and if there are plants below this wall they probably will be damaged.  Other than that it is just scrub, scrub, scrub with wirey bristles, but be careful you don't damage the wall. Best of luck!  ep
