How do I get compost and mulch for my garden? I live in Philadelphia.

Answer

The City of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center is located at 3870 Ford Road, Philadelphia, PA 19131 (215-685-0108). Charges for the mulch and material are listed on their website.

COVID-19 NOTE PLEASE READ:

Please note: the Organic Recycling Center is operating on a limited capacity through June 30. The center is open by appointment only.

Community gardeners and local growers may pick up compost or mulch for their gardens. For more information or to make an appointment, email farmphilly@phila.gov.

You must pick up your order in an open-back truck. No deliveries. Tuesday & Thursday only.

Smaller amounts come from the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center parking lot.  Queue up til a pile is free, then load yourself.  Masks & distancing required.

For residential use, city residents may obtain compost, mulch, wood chips and herbivore manure. There is no charge for small amounts of materials (up to a 30 gal. can). Residents who wish to obtain more than the free allotment must purchase the materials (prices are reasonable). For more information, including prices for purchased materials and hours of operation, visit the City of Phildelphia’s web page referenced above.
