How should I care for my newly planted tree?

Answer

The three most important things you can do for your newly planted tree are

1.Water it slowly and deeply 15 gallons once a week, during the entire time it is in leaf.

2. Keep weeds and grass away from your tree’s base. Weeds and grass compete with young trees, taking water, nutrients and oxygen away from them. If possible, clear a 3 foot section around your tree of weeds and grass.

3. Mulch your tree using the 3-3-3 technique: 3 inches thick, 3 feet wide and 3 inches from the base of the tree.
