Where can one take a pruning course in the Philadelphia area?

My husband and I would like to give my brother-in-law such a course as a birthday present. He LOVES to work in the yard particularly to prune bushes, shrubs and trees - however he is still a novice at it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Answer

Dear Jean:  The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has two programs, one of which might just be the perfect gift for your brother in law.  The first is called "Simple Steps to Spring Tree and Shrub Care and is about starting off the new growing season with a quick spring pruning.  The fee is $18. for members and $23 for non-members and is being held on april 23 5:30 to 6:30 in Camden, NJ at the Camden County Environmental Center. There is another pruning lecture at Chanticleer in Wayne, PA, which may or may not be closer for your brother in law.  It is being held on April 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 and costs are the same as above.  For more information, you could go on line to PHS or call PHS at 215-988-8800 and ask for Programs.
