Should I be concerned about sap coming from my tree?
We have what we believe is a linden tree in our front yard in Center City Philadelphia. A couple of weeks ago I noticed puddles of liquid around the tree and have determined that it is coming from the tree's branches and trunk. Last year I had the tree trimmed. Should I be concerned about the sap coming from the tree? If so, what should I be doing for the tree?
Answer
It is common for a tree to ooze sap after it was pruned, when the weather warms up and sap begins to move through the tree. As long as the tree looks healthy, I would not be concerned. Check the bark for cankers or wounds to be reassured that the sap is coming from the pruning.
