Answer

Dear Diane,

There are many wonderful books about plalnting trees from seed.  Here is an example of a book from the  Pennsylvania Horticulture Society's  McLean Library:

Kock, Henry, 1952-2005.:
Growing trees from seed :a practical guide to growing native trees, vines, and shrubs /Henry Kock ; with Paul Aird, John Ambrose, and Gerald Waldron.
Richmond Hill, Ont. : Firefly Books, 2008.
  280 p. :  ill. (some col.) ;  29 cm.

We have many other books about growing various types of tree, for example fruit trees, from seed.

Pennsyvania Horticulture Society members may borrow books from the library.  Here is a link to the library's catalog: http://phsonline.org/learning/the-phs-mclean-library
