A dill plant has small black and yellow striped caterpillers. Can you tell me what these are?

The dill is in with other herbs, but it is the only plant that has these on it. How harmful are they to the dill? Should I pick them off? Thank you.

Answer

It is very likely these caterpillars are for the yellow tiger swallow tail butterfly.  Check on the internet to see if it looks similar.  They are gorgeous butterflies and I plant dill just for them! They probably will chew up nearly all of the dill.
