How do I care for (water, fertilize) a Hibiscus?

The leaves are turning yellow and falling off.

Answer

Hibiscus are tough plants, the yellowing could be the result of a few things such as too much or too little water, too much shade (they prefer full sun) or a container that is too small so there is no room to put out new roots. They do not usually need fertilizing, however you could use an all purpose flower fertilizer if correcting the other cnditions doesn't work. If they are in containers in this weather, in full sun, they will need to be watered daily, preferrably in the morning.
