How can I find out what kind of tree is in front of my house?

We just bought a house in Center City and we have a tree that desperately needs to be pruned, but I don't know what kind it is. How can we figure that out? Also, how can I go about getting it pruned?

This site  also comes in a mobile friendly version. Additionally, you may want to download Leafsnap, an electronic field guide app from researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland and the Smithsonian Institution.

To find a tree specialist, go to the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) website and use the ISA database to find a certified arborist in your area. Tip: a search by zip code is the easiest way to search this database. When hiring arborists, be sure to check that they are ISA certified and that they carry insurance.

If the tree is a street tree, go to the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation TreePhilly site to download a form to fill out to make a request to have the tree pruned.
