Is there any hope for a hydrangea that does not have any green growth on it as of this date. April 5.

Answer

Scrape a few of the branches to see if there is any green appearing.  If there is, the hydrangea is still alive, but would require careful pruning.  If you do prune now, you likely will lose the blossoming period this year, but you might be able to save the plant.  If the plant needs very extensive cutting back, you simply might want to replace it.
