Will a potted holly grow on a west facing deck?

I have a west facing deck with 2 large pots which had cactus that survived two winters But this winter did them in. In the summer there is full sun from noon on. What large plant or evergreen could thrive ?
Thanks

Answer

Don't plant the hollies where they will be exposed to the western wind. Broadleaved evergreens tend to burn under those conditions. More wind tolerant choices would be crabapple, Japanese black pine, Junipers, red cedar (Juiperus virginiana), privet (Ligustrum vulgare), Shadbush (Amelanchier) or yews.
