I am looking for biographical information on Thomas Meehan.

Can you direct me to sources?

Answer

Botanist, horticulturist, author and nurseryman Thomas Meehan (1826 - 1901) spent most of his life in Philadelphia. For a detailed study of his contributions, see

Stephanie Ginsberg Oberle’s Master’s Thesis,   The influence of Thomas Meehan on horticulture in the United States.  I’ve uploaded this file as a PDF.

We have a number of publications by Meehan here in the PHS McLean library, including two periodicals he edited,

The Gardener's monthly and horticultural advertiser.   Philadelphia [Pa. : s.n. 1859-1875] followed by

Meehans' monthly :   a magazine of horticulture, botany and kindred subjects /   Philadelphia : Thomas Meehan & Sons, 1891-1902.

Additionally, we hold some catalogs from the Meehan nursery in Germantown.
