Is it safe to plant impatiens?

I have all shade in section in my front yard. Can you recommend any shade-loving flowers?

Answer

No, It's not safe to plant impatiens. They have been devastated by downy mildew. They may look good at the garden center but will undoubtedly get the disease once they are planted. Our hot humid summers don't help (except the mildew spores which love them). Suggestions for shade annuals would be begonias, caldiums, perennial hostas, etc..
