Can you suggest a good variety of flowering cherry tree?
Answer
What a nice tribute. Here are some suggestions:

Kwanzan – height – 30’, spread – 20’; clear pink double blossoms, mid-late
These trees are among those at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. Most of these have life spans of about 20 – 25 years.
Other possibilities to consider:

Mt. Fuji – height – 20’, spread-25’; semi-double white, early
