Several of my palms have a significant number of branches that are brown and dry.
Answer
Daniel, I am sorry to hear about your palms. It sounds like perhaps the palms are overwatered. They can't tolerate sitting in water or having water around their roots. Check the drain holes and be sure when you they water them, the excess water drains freely. You might need to poke into the hole to open it up. Also sometimes if the soil has pulled away from the pot it just drains through without really soaking the roots. In this case you will need to poke around the outer edges of soil to loosen it up and then add more soil. Of course don't let them sit in water. They might need to have new soil. You don't say how old the plants are. This would be a good time, in any event, if they have been in their soil 2-3 years to repot them to a new pot no more than 3" wider than the other one, to allow for new growth, if the original pot is over 8", and 2" larger if it is under 8". Then replace some of the existing soil with my favorite, Miracle Gro potting soil (No moisture control), or a similar product, and water well. Be sure not to overwater. If the soil feels dry down to about 1" then it is time to rewater. Also they should be kept out of strong sun and drafts. Within a week of Labor Day is the perfect time to move them indoors so they can adjust to the indoor temperatures and humidity. Best of luck. ep
