Unfortunately I don't have 2 months. I will feed the tree and water it but I doubt that the figs can ripen before the Fall freeze.

Is there a way to protect it from frost at night during the first frosts of the season? A tent made of plastic or old blankets? Or a way to get it to leaf out earlier in the season? I thought it was dead it took so long for leaves to appear. Thank you!

Answer

I don't know what kind of fig you have but the toughest  ones in this area are `Brown Turkey` or Desert King` which should be planted in warm, wind protected corners. For winter the tree can be swaddled in multiple layers of insulation. Practically every plant was 3 weeks late in flowering or fruiting this year due to the very severe winter but most made it back even if some of them didn't have time to flower or fruit.
