How can I get rid of fungus crust on my Azalea and Rhododendron branches and stems?

Prevention in future? Your help will be appreciated.

Answer

It's hard to exactly determine what a fungus crust is, but if it is like a sort of ball shape it is likely azalea gall, caused by an insect.  Cut off and discard the branch in the trash.  Would it be possible to take a picture of the problem and email it to us?
