Fair pay for garden labor for teenager such as tilling with heavy equipment.
What is a good pay for a teen who might like to help gardeners with tilling (with a heavy tiller)? The plots are 30'x30' and could be done in parts. There is a lot of shoveling as well. Pay per hour or per plot?
Answer
Hiring teenagers to turn over a garden has other concerns besides an hourly rate. You should call one of the trade high schools like Saul. They may have experience and can advise you on this. Many landscapers will perform this service using summer help. There are other concerns such as insurance coverage that are relevant. Exceptions to minimum wage and using heavy equipment for agricultural purposes may apply here.
