What kind of ground cover is best for my home?

I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I currently have mulch and some mix of plants. Would like to replace all of this with your suggestions for a good ground cover around the perimeter of my home.

Length of my house faces east and west. I would like to plant something that doesn't creep up the sides of my house. I would like a covering that is durable and stays short to the ground and doesn't need a lot of maintenance. Please help! thank you.

Answer

Dear Gardener:  Non-creeping ground covers are Vinca minor and Pachysandra terminalis.  Both are evergreen. Vinca has a blue flower in early May and the Pachysandra has a white flower at about the same time.  Both are hardy in Indianapolis.
