I had a tree planted a few seasons ago from phs and I believe it is dead. It has not bloomed. What can I do?

Answer

If the tree shows no signs of life, i.e., it doesn't have any leaves or flower buds, there is nothing that you can do but remove it. Check some of the newer bark to see if there is any green coloring under it. You can do that by scraping the bark. If it is dead, the wood will be dry and you can readily break it by bending. If there are signs of life, be patient. It may eventually leaf out. Cutting off some tips of branches may coax it to grow.

Sometimes, when the trunk dies above ground, new shoots will come up from the roots. You may want to wait a year or so before removing the roots. Then you can  select one, remove the others and grow a new trunk.
