Can I avoid using herbicides to remove Japanese Knotwood? Do you recommend Rodeo (glysophosphate)?

I need your recommendation about the use of Rodeo (glysophosphate) near a well-head.
In general, I tend to avoid use of herbicides anywhere in my life, if I can.
I have been told by managers of parks and preserves that the best way to remove
the invasive Japanese Knotwood involves several applications by professionals of Rodeo.

In a park that I volunteer manage, there are several forests of Japanese Knotweed.
Do you have information that there is any other way to get rid of this invasive?

Are there any warnings that you offer about applications of this stuff near a public utility well, or will the professionals know and honor those cautions?
Thank you for your time and knowledge or research,

Answer

It is possible to dig up the knotweed but the roots are very dense, like bamboo.  Glysophosate will need to be used to completely kill the plant.
