Answer
A six foot tall Tulip Tree (Liriodendron) can be transplanted in the spring with a high degree of success. In the fall, root trim the tree with a narrow long spade. About 8 inches out from the trunk dig the spade in about 8 inches deep, then repeat the dig, spacing the shovel the width of the spade from the previous dig. You will have created a circle of digs around the trunk, cutting about only half of the roots. In the spring, repeat the digs, cutting between the places where you dug in the fall. Carefully lift the root ball out of the soil and transplant immeadeately, watering in well.
