Can you please tell me what the value of a matured Japanese Maple tree is worth?

It is probably 25 to 30 feet tall and in excellent condition. It also has 5 or 6 very big branches branching out from it. Again, it is beautiful, healthy and in excellent condition. Where would I find someone or a business that would be interested in buying it? I've heard they can be worth $8 to $10K. I live near Binghamton, NY.

Answer

Dear Gardener;   The tree sounds absolutely gorgeous!   I am sure there are many people who would like to own such a tree, however, the cost of transplanting a tree of that size is quite high and there is no guarantee that the tree would survive the move.  There are tree transplant people who own a digger call a Vermeer Tree Spade that is used for moving big trees.  Call some of the bigger nurseries in your area and ask who has a large tree spade.  Unfortunately, the cost of moving the tree is a serious consideration in giving a value to the tree.  If the tree could be moved successfully, the value would be in the many thousands.  Another consideration in evaluating the tree would be if it is a named cultivar.   I would ask a local nursery or the tree moving company for the value of your tree in the Binghamton area.
