How do I get rid of bamboo?
I've got a stand of bamboo in my postage-stamp-sized garden in Center City. I didn't plant it, but I let it grow over the years. It's a beautiful screen, but my new neighbor informed me that it is popping up on her side of the garden wall as well as an easement, a common alley.
The plant is perhaps 13 years old and problems really only began recently. I'm willing to destroy the whole stand and rhizome system -- if I can -- but I also don't want to poison the soil to the point where other plants will suffer, namely the same neighbor's magnolia tree. I'm really hoping to solve this problem and make everyone happy.

So sorry about the bamboo! It is very, very difficult to get rid of . Mainly it takes digging, digging, digging; use of brush killer when it pops up where you can't dig; and total vigilance. Barriers don't seem to work. It has also been seen to break through asphalt roads. Best of luck. ep
