i have 11 "julia child" rose bushes on my front slope. they were planted by a professional gardener in 2014. late this summer i noticed the dreaded blackspot and nothing has been successful against it. exposure is south/southwest - they get plenty of sun, i don't water them from above, i am diligent with cleaning out the leaf litter. i've tried blackspot treatment from a big box store and, when that didn't work, a product called "greencure" that i got online. (applied as directed, week after week) the whole process has been a disaster for the roses. i've cut them completely back. they're all defoliated. now there is some new growth that looks "clean", but other new growth has blackspot and i don't know what to do.
Answer
Dear Robin: You have certainly tried your best!! Since the rose 'Julia Child' is black spot resistent, I would go back to the professional gardener who planted the rose bushes to be sure that you do indeed have that rose and also that you are dealing with black spot. Then ask him/her the correct treatment for whatever the disease is.
