Hi! I live in a rowhome in the city, and would like to start composting. I would like to use the compost to help my vegetables in my raised beds. But after much research, I'm still not sure the best method for composting in an urban context. I'm worried I won't be able to supply enough dry/brown matter, because we don't really have leaves around. Any suggestions or resources?

Answer

Dear Composter:  You may have more brown (carbon source) material than you realize.  Coffee filters and tea bags are helpful!  Also during fall and spring clean-up some people bag their yard waste and put it out to the curb.  I am sure they would not mind you taking a bag or two.   PHS has a new composting link that may be helpful to you:  http://pennhort.libguides.com/compost
