How do you propagate the peas or pearls on the string of pearl plant? (Senecio rowleyanus)
I already know how to propagate the string but not the pea that falls off.
Answer
Dear Eileen,
From what I have been able to research, this plant can be easily propagated by cutting or pinching off 4 inches of healthy stem tip and lightly covering them with moist potting mix. The roots will quickly develop from where the leaves are attached to the stem. This seems to indicate that the connection of the leaves (or peas) to the stem is what is necessary for the roots to germinate. But it is worth a try to simply drop a few peas into the soil and see what happens. Let us know if this works.
