At the 2016 Show, what is the name of the orange "paintbrush" like flower that won award for bulb flowers? Is it Scadoxus puniceus?

I loved this year's PHS Flower Show. I was particularly interested by one of the winners in the bulb classes. There were 6 large blooms in the one pot - thick stems that looked like celery with big orange "brushes" on top. I've never seen anything like it and I have been browsing through bulb websites for hours without seeing anything even remotely similar to it. What is that flower called? Thank you!

Answer

Vicki, thanks for coming to the show.  The plant is a Scadoxus puniceus.  It is very difficult to find and grow.  It is best in a greenhouse.  Good Luck.  ep
