Is there a particular way I need to cut off dead flowers?

I am attempting to continue growing the lilies I planted last year and now some of the flowers are turning brown and new ones are starting. Is there a particular place I need to cut off the dead flowers?

Answer

Dear Gardener: The important issue is to prevent the formation of a seed pod.  If you remove the dead flower head at the area where the flower meets the stem, you will remove the swollen area, which is the beginning of the seed pod.
