I am planning on planting some vintage rose next Spring. Can you suggest a good referance book that includes vintage roses

Answer

A recent and interesting new book on roses is Peter E. Kukielski's

Roses without chemicals: 150 disease-free varieties that will change the way you grow roses. He includes a section on heritage rose types  such as Gallica, Damask, Noisette, etc. and includes several heritage roses in his list of 150 varieties.  Kukielski was a curator at the Peggy D. Rockefeller Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden and he is a champion of roses that are disease resistant and ones that require less chemicals in the garden.

Our library has a print copy of this book, as well as the eBook version. As a member, you can check out the print copy or access the eBook online by entering your PHS membership number in the logon page. Contact us if you need more information on how to borrow books and eBooks.

Hope this helps. We have many books in the PHS McLean library on roses.
