I trust you are trying to grow Zingiber officinalis, the ginger used for cooking. It is hardy in all areas where the temperature does not go below freezing, which your are in no danger of!!! It does like fertile soil and partial shade. I would recommend not planting it in the high heat of the summer as, with any plant, it is harder to establish a plant when it is hot and dry. Plant a piece of root 1-2" below the surface of fertile soil. Water sparingly. but water well when you water the plant.
