What is this six-petaled white flowering bulb in Mt. Airy

Hi, I live in Mt. Airy and every spring, everyone's lawn is covered in a six-petaled white flower. They grow from a bulb that has a garlicy smell. There's everywhere! Are they invasive? Is this something I should remove from my yard?

Answer

Not having a photo to precisely identify the flower, my guess is that it is a Star of Bethlehem. It's a common sight in lawns at this time of year. I have always loved them.  However, it's up to you as to whether to dig them out.  You could thin them, of course, if you think they are overtaking your yard.
