I hate Forsythia! I want some blue and purple and red, what BUSHES bear those colors in out Philly area zone?

Answer

Hibiscus syriacus has the colors you like. It is an upright vase-shaped shrub which can grow to 7-13' high. The flowers have 3" 5 petaled flowers and bloom constantly from July to September. They are available in solid colors, white, red, purple, mauve, violet or blue. Pruning the branches produces more stems and gives it the vaselike form.
